Petrografia materialului litic din castrul roman Ilişua

  • Subiect: Archaeological material assigned to several epochs was discovered in the Roman military camp of Ilişua (Bistrita-Năsăud county); this study concerns the fragments of Roman grinders consisting of lithic material. The petrographic and mineralogical study was performed by using transmission polarising microscopy (on thin sections) and X-ray diffraction. Based on the results of our investigations, the raw material used for obtaining the Roman grinders was assigned to the magmatic rocks. The petrographic analysis of samples R1-R11 indicates that volcanic rocks of the rhyodacitic ignimbrite-type were used; the source of the raw material was identified as being the ignimbritic massif from Ciceu, of a Lower Badenian age, located in the neighbourhood of Ciceu-Corabia locality (Bistriţa-Năsăud county).
