Analiza fragmentelor textile cu fir metalic din cimitirul feudal de la Carei-Bobald, judeţul Satu Mare

  • Subiect: This paper presents an analytical survey of metal threads and filaments discovered in a feudal cemetery from Carei Bobald, belonging to 17th century. The aim of this work is to determine the range of materials and methods of manufacture and to try to identify the causes of deterioration with the aim of determining a policy for treatment. The samples were examined under reflected light microscope, the separated fibres were also examined in transmitted light, and the metal thread was analyzed using energy dispersive x-ray fluorescence spectroscopy ( EDXRF ). EDXRF analysis showed a remarkably high proportion of copper alloyed with zinc, a little iron and lead, but no silver. This must be a lacquered gilded brass or a lacquered brass. Lacquer was sun under microscope, this had a disastrous effect, reacting with the copper, lifting the silver and penetrating the core, staining it green. Microscopic examination in transmitted light showed a flax core. Using the examination under reflected light it was possible to identify the method of manufacture of the filament as a cast, drawn and rolled.
