Reprezentarea bataistă de la Guruslău - 3 august 1601

  • Subiect: The Representation of Guruslău Battle – 3rd August 1601 Most of the war chroniclers (in the modem vision) have registered the events happened between nine and seven o'clock on the day of 3rd August 1601. It was a hard battle, carried out by two armies, those of Mihai Viteazul, the independent Romanian general, together with the Austrian general, George Basta, on one side and those of Sigismund Bathory, on the other side. One of the chronicler has achieved a drawing, which has been published in the times pamphlets and which shows the graphic representation of the battle. This drawing makes the object of the present work. The Guruslău battle's drawing creates a special vision on three levels: one level represents the background; the middle ground represents the battle, with the troops coming out behind the hill, from the left flank and which chase the retreat armies of prince Sigismund. Bathory and the foreground with the representation of the proper battle. The movement's dynamics is suggested by the smoke clouds come out from the artillery fire. The uniforms of the two belligerent troops, the banners and the armies, all are represented by the artist with clarity and in an accurate way. The artistic composition has been minute built, the artist has respected strictly the principles imposed by a battle representation.
