Mihai Maxim and the Historical Research of Braila Town

Subiect: Mihai Maxim's death in August 2017 meant a huge loss for the Romanian research and not only because he is known as one of the most important turkologists in Europe. In this study we are trying to show the significant role Mihai Maxim held in researching the history of Brăila which led to better knowledge of the past of this county. Indeed, the history of Brăila knows large documentary gaps in the Middle Ages, more exactly during the period of the Ottoman rufe between I 538-1829. The latest research of the Ortoman Archives undertaken by Mihai Maxim has opened a new stage in revealing the history of Brăila. and this becomes more meaningful since this year we will celebrate Brăila's 650 years of documentary attestation (20 January 1368- 20 January 2018).
