- Subiect: In 2017, 65 years have passed since the tragic death of general and mayor Ioan Răşcanu, at Sighet Prison, wrongfully forgotten in our days. General Ioan Răşcanu was one of the heroes of Romania’s completion and one of the martyrs sacrificed for it. He was the son of Elefterie and Elena Răşcanu. He was born on January 14, 1874, in Cahul town located in south-west of Basarabia. He was mayor, senator, deputy of Vaslui and General Mayor of Bucharest. In his last years of life, he was thrown out in the communist regime`s disgrace. He was investigated by the communist authorities and was sentenced with 25 years of prison, being imprisoned at Sighet where he died on February 25, 1952, after a cruelly detention. For his tireless work at the service of local community he deserves to get more attention from the authorities and Vaslui habitants.
