Bancnotele emise de banca naţională a României şi de ministerul finanţelor în timpul domniei regelui Ferdinand

  • Subiect: After the outbreak of World War I, in order to deal with the expenses, the government issues treasury bills which it pays the bank of issue and the bank issues convertible notes in exchange. Since silver coins disappear from the market due to speculation or hoarding, population transactions are conducted under difficult conditions. This leads the government and National Bank of Romania leadership to decide the circulation of banknotes of 5 lei and subsequently tickets of 1 leu and 2 lei. After the evacuation of the National Bank of Romania to Iasi, printing was no longer able to be used in Bucharest so it was decided to print banknotes of 1 leu, 2 lei, 5 lei, 20 lei and 100 lei in Russia.
