- Subiect: The school and spiritual life in Vaslui town in the 19th century To conclude, after the brief presentation of the school and of the cultural and religious life, we claim that in the 19th century, the town of Vaslui goes through a slow process of modernization. Indeed, we believe that in the Romanian society in general, but especially in Vaslui town, in the 19th century, there were some signs of modernization, though it was far from modern. Like the Romanian society, Vaslui would not manage to get through the first industrial revolution this century. Of course, in the town of Vaslui we had elites that are a part of the modern world, but the agrarian economy was extremely poor and outdated. Therefore, in 1907 the town was devastated, like in the medieval age. We had manufacturers, as well as owners of the town 's hearth, practically a combination of archaic and modem, of East and West, a world in a rapid change among elite, but in a slow one among population, a population that cannot adapt to a new modem reality, in the whole Romania. With these changes, the education system and spiritual life began having an important role, with renowned schools as Mihail Kogalniceanu Gymnasium and remarkable churches as Saint John Church, founded by Steven the Great. This is the town of Vaslui of the 19th century, in a rather small Romania, a town where new is blended with the old, where modernization cannot occur, unless it is slow.
