Subiect: What can Bessarabians be: Romanians or Moldavians? We have two different theories: the first is the Romanian one and proclaims that the Bessarabians are part of the Romanian people. The second one is the Soviet theory and was born in the Stalinist period. This theory suggests the existence of the Moldavian nation as being a combination between three ethnical components: „substrat” – it’s about the Volohians (the romanized Scythian people); „strat” – is Latin and „adstrat” is part of eastern Slavic tribes.
