Subiect: Summary: This study analyses: conflicts of ideas; the electoral law and its
implementation; the activity of politica) parties; the election results; the altemation
in power; the ro le of the parliament, the govemment, the monarchy and the press
over the two decades of the interwar period. It is generally considered that, though having had a series of shortcomings, the democratic regime in Romania has lasted longer than in most countries in central and south-eastem Europe. It was only in February 193 8 that the authoritarian regime was installed in power in Romania, while the totalitarian one
was installed in June 1940.
