- Subiect: The prestigious Christofle silverware manufacturer, which was named after its founder, Charles Christofle, was opened in 1830. Combining seriousness, quality and creativity with a strong scientific spirit, the Parisian firm shortly became one of the most important silverware suppliers of 19th and 20th century monarchies and members of the high society. Officially recognized as supplier of the French court in 1851, during the time of future emperor Napoleon III (since December 1852), Christofle became – for the European aristocracy influenced by French fashion – a trendsetter in terms of decorative art. Chirstofle was also successful in the Orient. This article presents a Christofle tea and coffee service from the collections of the National History Museum of Romania. Dated between 1840 and 1863 and bearing the coat of arms of the United Principalities of Wallachia and Moldavia, the silver, Napoleon III-style service is incomplete, so that in the museum’s collection are found only seven representatives pieces.
