Subiect: Documents Regarding Astra s Department in Sălaj County (1879-1891)
The author continues publishing the series of documents regarding ASTRA’s developing activity (XI) in Salaj county since its foundation (in the year 1870) up to the Great Unification from December the 1st , 1918.
The documents are archived in "ASTRA" funds at the National Archive - Sibiu county Department and "IOAN ARDELEANU-SENIOR" funds at the National Archive - Salaj county Department.
We have selected these documents and presented them in 46 appendages covering many activities that have been made by the inhabitants of the Salaj department between 1871 - 1891.

The Memory of the documents of Astra Library: George Pop de Basesti
George Pop de Basesti is among the famous men coming from the North-West of our country who influenced the destiny of the whole nation.
The special fund of Astra Library in Sibiu preserves some of thc letters sent by George Pop de Basesti mainly to his daughter Elena from the prison of Yacz. There he was expiating the guilt of loving his country and fighting for his people. The letters immortalise the author’s feelings as well as ideas and events that preoccupied him in the years 1894 and 1895.
The layout of the letters is rather unpretentious (they are written in black ink on notebook paper), but it illustrates both the conventions connected with letter writing at the time when they were written and some of the essential characteristics of their author, such as sternness and temperance. Some words, phrases and figures are no longer legible, but this fact contributes to the special flavour of old times that the letters give forth.
