Subiect: Baroque religiosity: the impact of sacral themes in central-European medal study. 17th - 18th century
The impact of canvases made in the baroque era upon engravers of medals is notable: most of them have used them as inspiration in rendering some similar moments on the issued pieces displaying the registration of solemn moments. Religiously inspired scenes and biblical episodes are rarer in meda! representations where certain symbolic elements (the Divine all-seeing eye, Manus Dei, Agnus Dei, cross etc.) are preferred or quotations from the Bible. Rarely, sacred subjects that reach the Christian sensibility can be found on some medals such as some of those selected for this paper.
