Subiect: The arrival of the Soviet troops on Romanian territory in March 1944 and the perspective of our country becoming a combat zone, the English and American air raids which had started in April, the presence of about one million German soldiers, the deterioration of the dictatorial regime impelled the public opinion. The documents from that time prove the ostility of the Romanian people towards the anti-Soviet fascist war, towards the German troops and also speak about protest actions against the policy of the Antoncscu-dictatorship and about a visible sympathy towards the United Nations. In many ways the public opinion influenced the politician facts in the direction of constituting a common front for Romania's exclusion from the Hitler war, of the armistice with the United Nations, of the abolishrnent o the dictatorial regime and the return to a democratic one. The frame of mind or the Romanian people, its will to build up a new destiny constituted a fact of major importance in assuring the victory from the 23 rd of August 1944.
