Subiect: The unpublished documents kept by The National Archives of Jassy County
offer some very important information about the unknown medical activity in
Moldavian schools in the jirst half of the 19th century. There is much information
about the doctors of that age, but the notes regarding the school chemists and
dentists are very rare. Therefore, the unpublished documents that our study is based on helped us to restare the names of three chemists (C. Tornborg, I. Degre
and Iacob Vierozinski) and one dentist (J. Lofjle). On the other hand, doctor Ghica, who was in charge of the three mast important schools of Jassy, tried to make the authorities aware of the importance of maintaining the public school hygiene, of healthy alimentation and of sports activities, in order to improve the pupils' health. We notice that, before the approval of the official regulations regarding school medical policies, since the mid 19th centwy, the harsh realities obliged the authorities to find some practicai solutions.
