Subiect: This article is a short review of the history of The Clark Art Museum and the way its founder, Robert Sterling Clark (1877-1956), created a cultural institution, which is not only a museum but also a vast complex, with a library, conference hall, a preservation laboratory and an Art School. Three generations of Clarks gathered a rich art collection, paintings and sculptures, from Renaissance to Impressionism and Postimpressionism or modern art. Robert Sterling Clark chose Williamstown because he thought that a small town is a proper place for the security of an art collection and because it was the time in a metropolis but somewhere else for the public to come especially for art.
