Subiect: In the memory of the Romanian academy’s member, Ştefan Ştefănescu (1920-2020). Some demographic aspects of the historical neighbourhood Dorobănţia of the city of Craiova, named Sf. Nicolae Dorobănţia between 1832-1910
At the recommendations of the regretted academician Ştefan Ştefănescu (1929-2020) but also under the impulse to continue the efforts of Father Ion Popescu-Cilieni, dedicated to the editing of documents related to craftsmen and traders from Craiova (1665-1865), as well as other local historians, we started for all the historical areas of Craiova, a long research on the demographic evolution and the concerns of the inhabitants of the Bănie Fortress. The research was mainly based on historical sources, largely unpublished, mainly for the period 1831-1914. The present research presents historical neighbourhood (Sf. Nicolae Dorobănţia – Craiova), which have as their spiritual centre the Sf. Nicolae Dorobănţia.
The study is an attempt to reconstruct the historical area of Craiova, to know the political and intellectual elites born and established in this area, but also to the various traders, ploughmen, craftsmen and membres of the minority communities (Jews, Saxons, Roma, Serbs, Bulagarians etc.) from the old shopping centre.
