Subiect: In this paper I examine the intellectual paths that led Dimitrios N. Darvaris (1757-1823), a Greek language scholar settled in Wien, to the translation from Ancient Greek into Modern Greek of an influential stoic text, the „Handbook” of Epictetus (cca 50 - cca 120 p. Chr.). Aspects as the reception of ancient texts from different traditions and the idea of democratizing the access to classical writings come into focus.
